Who we are

It didn’t matter what it was—a billboard, a website, a post, a paper—I was naturally keen at catching typos and knowing how to fix them. A human spellchecker, if you will. I didn’t think much of this ability until in 2016 friends began asking for my skillset to update their resumes or cover letters and review their small business print products or other written projects. I felt honored to offer my assistance. I was entrusted to present their image, their reputation with excellence. I didn’t take that lightly; I still don’t. Kelsey Proofreads is about ensuring that you receive the most excellent version of what you have worked hard to create through careful proofreading and copyediting services.

We might be marking up your work with revisions, but our one goal is to be here for you to help you make your mark on the world.

Why was Kelsey Proofreads created?

Vision Statement.

Our process:

The 3 R’s

  • The first step is to review what you send us. This is where we thoroughly look over your project and read through it.

During this stage, we might reach out to you if we need clarity about certain parts of your project.

    Pretty simple, right?

  • The second step is to revise your work. This is where we correct any errors found. This looks like marking your document with the corrections and sending it back for you to make the changes to the original copy.

For proofreading services, this is the last step and includes grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting.

For copyediting or personalized services, this includes the above mentioned plus word choice to match intent/meaning, fact-checking, and maintaining voice and consistency, to name a few.

  • The third step is to refine your work. Think of this as making tweaks to your project that will improve and polish it with finishing touches.

This looks like adding, deleting, or rearranging content for optimal flow and a clean look, fixing echo words that are used repeatedly, and addressing distracting writing habits (like “just” and “really”), to name a few.

Refining is provided in our copyediting and personalized services only.

However, because of our mission statement to be here for you, with all of our customers we share recommendations for improvement in this area when it applies.
