Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which service I need?

Think about where you are in your project. Are you at the finish line and need another person to look over it to make sure everything looks right? If so, you likely only need proofreading services.

Maybe you’re at a place in your project where you feel stuck on the details like “I can’t find the right word” or “Does this still sound like me/my company?” You want personalized services.

Maybe you’re looking for consistency. “I want to make sure all of these documents are following the same style, voice, layout, etc.” If that’s the type of support you need, you want copyediting services.

Typically, proofreading is more hands-off in which you already have everything set and figured out, and you want your work reviewed and revised before you present it to your audience.

Copyediting is more or less hands-off as well once we have gathered the necessary information to revise and refine your work (such as style guides or your specific instructions).

The personalized services from Kelsey Proofreads are a much more hands-on process in which we collaborate with you step-by-step in whatever capacity you need to develop your project with excellence.

How much do your services cost?

You can find all of our services and prices on our Services page. This page will provide details about what’s included with each service. However, if you have more questions or want to get a quote for your specific needs, we’d love for you to Contact us or book a free consultation on our Book Here page.

How quickly can I expect a response?

All contact forms sent to us will receive a response within 24-48 hours. As for the timeline that your project is returned to you, we adhere to the time slot(s) you select when you book our services.

If you first inquire about services on our Contact page or in our free consultation, we will provide a quote that includes the expected amount of time to complete the requested service(s) and the anticipated total amount. Additionally, we will include instructions on how many time slots to book to accurately accommodate the time needed. Services begin on the selected date and time you book. If for any reason the time commitment needs to be changed, we will communicate with you immediately.

For more information on appropriate time allotment during booking and changes to time commitments, read the FAQ: “How do I know how many hours to allot for my project when I’m booking a service?”

What is the difference between the ‘Book Here’ page and the ‘Contact’ page?

Our Contact page is where you can ask questions, send details about your project, and attach files to be previewed. Contact us if you are not quite ready to book a service and want more information. You will receive a response within 24-48 hours.

Our Book Here page is where you will set the actual appointment when you’re ready to receive services, which you will only be charged for after services are completed. The service(s) you book begin on the date and time slot you selected.

How do I know how many hours to book for my project?

There are 3 ways to best ensure you book the appropriate amount of time for your project.

  1. Attach the file(s) you want serviced on our Contact page so we can preview your project and provide a quote with how many hours to book.

  2. Book a free consultation on our Book Here page so we can preview your project and provide a quote with how many hours to book.

  3. Calculate how many hours to book using the 10-page rule:

    • Book one hour for every 10 pages or 5,000 words.

    • Divide page totals that are higher than 10 by 10. Round any decimals above .4 to the next hour.

    • Any projects less than 10 pages are booked for 1 hour.

    • Examples:

      • 1-10 pages (5,000 words or less) — book 1 hour.

      • 50 pages (25,000 words) — book 5 hours.

      • 22 pages (11,000 words) — book 2 hours.

      • 25 pages (11,250 words) — book 3 hours.

What if I book more hours than I need? What if I book less hours than are needed to complete my project?

If it takes less time to fulfill our services than what you booked, we will remove the extra time slots by canceling them on our end, and you will only be charged for the hours serviced.

If more time is needed than what you booked, we will contact you to book the additional time slots necessary.

To avoid underbooking the necessary time to service your project, it’s best practice to send your file in advance or book a free consultation.
